Expo Team Takes Over Maintenance of React Native for Web#

The maintenance of React Native for Web has been handed over to the Expo team, with plans underway to transfer the repository to the React Foundation. This marks a transition from Nicolas Gallagher, who led the project for many years, to a community-led maintenance model.

We (@expo) are now maintaining React Native for Web. Thanks to @necolas for building it and looking after it all these years 🫡 github.com/necolas/react-nativ…

RNWebがExpo管理下になるだけでなく、リポジトリがReact Foundationに移る話まであるの……感無量です…… 今までありがとうニコラス…… twitter.com/zoontek/status/210…

React Native Skia 3.0 Released with Default WebGPU Support#

React Native Skia 3.0 has been officially released, shifting from its previous OpenGL-centric architecture to WebGPU by default. It now supports multithreading out of the box and enables integration with three.js and VisionCamera.

William Candillon @wcandillon · 2026年10月2日

We are releasing React Native Skia version 3.0 which runs WebGPU by default. By moving away from the OpenGL-centric design, it allows for multithreading by default as well as deep integration with three.js, vision camera, and transformer.js www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-PNQi…

Zero-Copy Rendering Demo with Skia Graphite and WebGPU#

A rendering demo in React Native utilizing the new Skia Graphite backend has been showcased. By running Skia and WebGPU on the same GPU, data is shared without incurring texture copies, combining Skia-based text layout with WebGPU rendering of roughly 15,000 elements.

Enzo Manuel Mangano @reactiive_ · 2026年10月4日

This demo is built this with React Native/Expo on the new Skia Graphite backend. With Graphite, Skia and WebGPU run on the same GPU device and pass textures around without copying them. So: - Skia lays out the article (proper text, line breaks, kerning) - WebGPU takes the ~15k

”e2e”: A Testing Framework for Agents Introduced#

An open-source testing framework called “e2e” has been released for web and mobile. It features a hybrid approach combining deterministic assertions with natural language instructions directly in test code, allowing AI agents to perform autonomous interactions.

Szymon Rybczak @SzymonRybczak · 2026年10月1日

THE FUTURE OF AGENTIC TESTING IS HERE 🤯🤯 → fully open source → supports web and mobile → combines deterministic and agentic APIs npx e2e init ⬇️ twitter.com/o_kwasniewski/stat…

Introducing e2e The agentic testing framework for any app ~/ npx e2e init → Fully Open Source → Mix deterministic and agentic APIs → Supports web, mobile, and more → Bring your own agent and infrastructure → Run locally or in CI tester.army/e2e

”Angular Native” Announced, Running on Top of Expo#

“Angular Native” has been announced, allowing developers to build native apps on Expo using Angular syntax. Standard Angular features like Signals and dependency injection work out of the box, executing as a JavaScript bundle compliant with the Fabric protocol under the New Architecture.

Ashley Hunter @ashh640 · 2026年9月29日

🚀 Introducing Angular Native The stunning developer experience and ecosystem of Expo, using the Angular framework you already know and love. • Real native iOS & Android
• Expo SDK & ecosystem
• Angular components, signals & DI
• CSS & Tailwind out of the box

Expo’s Agentic CI: Merging 791 PRs in a Month with Just 7 Developers#

The Expo team shared their achievement of merging 791 pull requests in August with just 7 developers, detailing the Agentic CI architecture that made it possible. By integrating automated testing tools and AI agent verification loops into their CI pipeline, they achieved high-velocity development and operations with a lean team.

A team of seven devs on Expo merged 791 PRs in August 🤯 @o_kwasniewski from @TesterArmy breaks down the agentic CI setup behind it: try.expo.dev/47p7V1Q

”Lucent”: An Experimental Tool to Generate Native UI from TypeScript#

“Lucent”, an experimental tool that generates native views in SwiftUI for iOS and Jetpack Compose for Android from a single TypeScript file, has been released. UI components compile to native code while logic compiles to C++, allowing them to be imported and used from React code just like standard components.

Faustino @Fausto95_ · 2026年9月30日

One file. SwiftUI on iOS, Jetpack Compose on Android. Write native views in TypeScript with Lucent: the view compiles to Swift or Kotlin, the logic to C++, and React imports it like any component. No Swift. No Kotlin. No glue code. (experimental) twitter.com/Fausto95_/status/2…

nitro fetch v1.8.0 Adds Support for FormData and Native Timeouts#

Version 1.8.0 of “nitro fetch”, an HTTP client library powered by Nitro Modules, has been released. Alongside native timeout support and request prioritization, this release adds support for req.formData and res.formData.

Ritesh Shukla @RiteshRk14 · 2026年9月30日

We just released nitro fetch v1.8.0 1. Timeout is now supported natively 2. Abort controller now supports signal.reason like native fetch 3. Request priority 4. req.formData and res.formData are finally supported

expo-native-variants: Configure Multi-Environment Builds with a Single Prebuild#

“expo-native-variants” has been released, enabling Xcode schemes and Android flavors to be configured via an Expo Config Plugin. It allows you to isolate App IDs and app icons across dev, preview, and prod environments, requiring only a single Prebuild run when native code changes without needing to rerun it for each variant build.

Christoph Pader @chrispader · 2026年10月1日

I made expo-native-variants, an Expo config plugin 👀 It sets up Xcode schemes and Android Studio flavors. Prebuild your app once per native change, then build dev, preview or prod without running it again. Separate app IDs, names, URL schemes and icons.

react-native-wifi-aware: Device-to-Device Communication Without Internet#

“react-native-wifi-aware” has been released, allowing direct peer-to-peer file transfers between devices without a router or external server. Powered by Nitro Modules, it handles local data transfers at Wi-Fi Direct speeds.

Mehdi · Motionary @mehdi_made · 2026年10月3日

Sending a file to someone sitting next to you shouldn't need a server. So I built react-native-wifi-aware. It goes straight phone to phone at wifi speeds. No router, no internet. Using Nitro Modules. Repo: github.com/mahdidavoodi7/react…

One More Thing#

The Expo team’s stat of “791 PRs merged in one month by just 7 developers” was absolutely wild! It’s incredible to see how much velocity a tiny team can achieve once Agentic CI is in the mix.
